New furniture and old furniture alike needs to be treated with care so that it does not get damaged. Cleaning furniture can be tedious, but it doesn’t have to be. Because furniture is the core of our homes, and expresses our personality, no one wants dingy furniture pieces sitting around in the family room. There are plenty of ways to take care of your furniture without damaging it, and preventing it from getting damaged in the future.

If your furniture is new and non-leather, clean it weekly by removing any cushions and vacuuming the insides. You can also by a dry agent that cleans the surfaces without having to use water. This is specifically useful for those materials that are easily harmed by water, or if you do not want to deal with the mess. Different types of furniture will require different methods for cleaning the pieces.

Leather is a delicate fabric, even though its really durable. When it comes to cleaning agents, leather can be damaged greatly within seconds. To keep your leather pieces in tip top shape, treat it with a leather oil. Auto places usually sell these for vehicles, and since the leather is typically the same it will work on your indoor furniture as well.

If your furniture requires a bit more than wiping down, or vacuuming underneath the surfaces, steam cleaners are the answer to your problems. While you cannot use these on leather or any surface other than cloth, you can use them on most fabric upholstery. There are even smaller machines for usage on furniture. The steam cleaners work by getting deep down into the surfaces of the material, so that you can be assured that all of it is clean.

Staining is bound to happen, but we all hate when it does. Body fluids, such as blood can be removed with ease. When it first spills onto furniture, make sure you rise it with cold water, or wash the material thoroughly. If it is old stains, meat tenderizer can remove it after soaking into the material. Peroxide, and baking soda can also work wonders for pesky stains. Never underestimate the power of random household goods for removing hard to remove stains.

If children are around, food is probably a problem. Unless you have banned eating on furniture pieces, then you will probably experience sticky food products getting smashed into your furniture. These can be fixed with a few simple things. Ice, vinegar, peanut butter, and water all work for sticky products that get stuck, or other food things that can damage your pieces.
